I know, we fell out of our chairs too.

OoohWheee, this is a super special treat. You have the opportunity to get an insiders peek into three of Annie’s very own bedrooms. She reveals some DIY design tips behind the look, offers up rare tricks of the trade, and shares which textiles are her timeless “go tos”. Best, learn how her mind for business and eye for design transformed three of her bedrooms into unique spaces that can work in your very own house or apartment.

We betcha a “baby aspirin pink” throw you will fall in love with Annie’s fun personality and quick wit. And um, she has a blue dolphin in her office. Yep, she’s awesome. Leave a comment below for Annie when you find her dolphin, and we’ll put your name in the drawing for the coral throw seen on her daughter’s bed!

3 TIPS ON HOW TO GET THIS LOOK

1. Art can be a “jumping of point” for any room. See the flower paintings that Annie inherited from her mother? Those inspired the palette for the whole room! If you have a painting, textile, or photograph that is meaningful to you, use it’s colors and vibe to begin the design direction of a space.

2. Mix old and new. Annie finds treasures all over the world in store, flea markets, and estate sales. When she mixes these cool scores with her fresh and modern textiles, her room evolves into something timeless and on-trend without going overly traditional or trendy.

3. Buy furniture that is not “room specific”. Annie’s dresser was once in her dining room and her red end tables could work just as well in a living room one day! Because she collects and never buys “the furniture set”, her spaces look like they evolved over time. No paint by numbers outta this smart cookie!

3 TIPS ON HOW TO GET THIS LOOK

1. Play with pattern. These textiles have a fantastic global flare, and the way that Annie has layered them gives the illusion that they were bought over time during her many trips. This is a wonderful way to give your bedroom a well-traveled vibe that is not too girly or overly masculine – best, you never had to buy a plane ticket.

2. High contrast is chic alllll dayyyy long and straight into nighttime! See how the amazing bed has a very dark stain and commanding lines? Well, smart Annie deftly balances this architectural bed with the black lamp shades against the lighter walls. Imagine if those shades had been white? They would have felt wimpy and gotten lost. Black is the perfect choice!

3. And speaking of the shades, in rooms where there is this much going on, it is A-Ok to have the shades slightly different heights as long as the shades and lamps are the same.

3 TIPS ON HOW TO GET THIS LOOK

1. Those folding screens?! We can’t even deal with how phenomenal they are, so we taught you how to make a few. You’re welcome!

2. And while we are obsessing over those lovelies, here is why we love them the most: Screens are a fantastic way to give the illusion of wallpaper without the high cost of papering a wall! This is such a great way to give big impact without the mess or cost of wallpaper.

3. Make your curtains and headboard the same fabric – or at the very least, fabric that is super similar. It lends a quiet elegance to the room and will always look in style! Best, you can take the bedding any direction when you try this trick. The calming whites Annie used look great, but you could also introduce other colors and patterns if your tastes change.
