When you’re toiling through 60+ hour workweeks and raising small children, who has the energy to worry about designing a room?! This is a family who loves and appreciates a beautiful house but also understands that there is a ‘time for everything’. So with a husband working in finance and a mother juggling a law practice (and a carpool!), it’s logical to let the design of the living room wait a bit! That is why through the toddler years, these loving and laidback parents allowed the living room to become a playroom. GO DREAM MOM AND DAD, GO! All interior designers can say they’ve seen this more times than they can count: adoring and hardworking parents who sacrifice a room for their precious children for a few years and then, when the time is right, they take the necessary steps to turn that room into a wonderful space for both adults and children to enjoy. We wanted to give this family an elegant space that felt special enough for parties but durable enough to never be “off-limits.” Combining neutral tones with floral accents, this living room creates a formal atmosphere that still has a lot of edge–best of all, it’s extremely durable!
** Full Disclosure: My kids are 6 and 8 and I have yet to tackle the design of the family room! I have hand-me-downs and fraying 15-year-old furniture – it’s really something horrific to behold. I should probably post the pictures one day?! But for now, I’ll just be jealous of this room and continue to have my children ask, “Aren’t you the person who makes houses PRETTY, Mommy?!”**
