PRO TIPS!

We adore the floor from our Vintage Inspired Kitchen! Call us a One Trick Pony, but we use these tiles all the time because they are durable, inexpensive, and endlessly customizable. And unlike stone, you can really live on them since they don’t stain. Check out some of the ways we use Petit Pennies and Hexes to make a big impact on a slim budget!

Black Penny Tiles & Black Petit Hex Tiles

Black petit hexes and black pennies are dramatic as he!!. Even though they are dark, somehow these lil’ onyx darlings always make a floor shine. If we pare them with light tile wainscoting, we like using a deep paint on the walls, and when we pare them with dark tile wainscoting we like using lighter paint on the walls. Either way, they are all at once modern, classic, and they don’t show dirt! *We have both shown with dove gray grout.

Customizing Petit Hex Tiles

Who else is gaga for petit hexs?! They might be one of the most chic, versatile, and inexpensive tiles around. These little work horses stack up to busy families and restaurants with ease, and you can combine endless colors/patterns to customize the floor. Almost every tile company offers a petit hex collection, and the patterns you create arrive on mesh, which makes install as easy as laying large field tiles. Customizing Penny Tiles

Have you ever added penny tiles as a trim detail on wainscoting? The pennies are often the same thickness as the field tiles below them so this makes install is a snap. We used these white pennies with a slight blue rim to add color without limiting the room to a blue scheme. A big bonus is the tiles come on sheets, so your installer can just cut two rows at a time saving money on install time. These tiles are a great way to add visual interest with out breaking the bank! ((I want to make a penny pun here, but I’ll spare you!))

Tiling with Real Pennies

And if you like pennies, why not use the real thing?! Our client was determined to install these pennies herself with some friends over a long weekend, so she bribed them with pizza and beer and they made a party of it – fast, fun, inexpensive. After they were finished, she gave the glued down pennies two coats of marine varnish and, BAM!, a new floor. We think it looks phenomenal!

We did the shopping for you!

All of these bad boys are under $20 – most are under $10! A BIG thank you to The Home Depot!!
