THE SPACE

Remember how colorfully Anne Decorated her Dining Room from just a few weeks ago? Well, we wanted to show you how we spruce up her living room for the holidays in a much more subdued way! Just as interesting as any holiday room, this space is all about restraint. Everyone always smiles when they see it, and best of all, it literally takes MINUTES to pull off!

4 TIPS ON HOW TO GET THIS LOOK

1. Scatter a mix of vintage and new bulbs on the mantle. This lends visual interest but also injects a hit of history into any room! Vary the shapes and sizes to keep the eye moving, and stick with a distinct palette. Here we went with mostly white and red with hits of holiday green, gold, and orange.

2. Use a simple poinsettia to make the room merry! We love these coral colored ones because they are striking yet mellow. You can find them everywhere, and they’re an inexpensive way to make a room festive in seconds.

3. Stuff a few plastic candy canes into bud vases. Poof–a little Christmas cheer! (PS- We love these plastic ones because they almost look like the vintage glass ones but are a fraction of the cost!)

4. Rip open a bag of yummy wrapped candies and throw them in a bowl on the coffee table. So easy, so yummy, and it looks pretty too! That took us .5 minutes!

THE COVETED DETAILS

We said this for the dining room, but it’s worth repeating: Mix old and new! Try not to be dyed to match or paint by number when you are decorating for the holidays! Do this on the table, the tree, the mantle, everywhere! This gives an infusion of history and a warm nod to your relatives that loved you all your life. And when you do buy new bobbles, pick fun ones you love, because what is new today will be old and treasured by your grandkids!

MAKE IT YOUR OWN

It doesn’t matter if your floorplan is not the same! DESIGN GUIDES with room planners and templates help you get this look in your own house – no matter what your layout! We show you exactly how we do it – It’s So Easy! If you love paper dolls, you will LOVE this!
