Make Art Your Own

Fine art is expensive. We want an original Helen Frankenthaler over the mantle in our office, and guess what? That’s not happening . . . ((pitiful sniff))

But luckily, there are loads of resources for “off the rack art” in stores and on the internet. And because we cringe at the thought of everyone having the exact same things hanging on their walls, we wanted to show you how we like to take mass-produced art and make it unique!

We first showed you this trick in the Tiny Room.

These photographs on either side of the television are flipped on their side and hung vertically! We think it makes them much more interesting.

Here’s what they look like online.

And here is how we hung them on the walls!

In Enormous TV, we took off the shelf art and made an unexpected pairing by turning one of the pieces on its side.

Here is what they look like online.

And here is exactly how we hung them. We think they make such a dynamic duo styled this way!

And we did it again in a second version of the same room, Enormous TV Toned Down! We took a fabulous piece that normally hangs horizontally and flipped it vertically.

Here is what it looks like online.

And here is how we hung it! Now it fills that wall perfectly.

But we really got creative in Opposites Attract and Opposites Attract Everywhere! Check out how we hung the same mass produced art two ways.

In the first room we took a horizontal shot of album covers, blew them up huge, and turned them vertically.

Here’s what it looks like online.

And here is how we hung it in the room. We love the way is flanks the fireplace and adds a major modern hit to the room!

But what if you don’t have walls large enough to use this trick? We took the exact same art and used it completely differently. We grouped many smaller sizes of the same piece and installed them together as an installation. *Design Magic!*

Here is what they look like online.

And here is how we grouped them on the wall. We are obsessed with these!

We hope this inspires you to tackle your blank walls because buying art has never been easier–with stores and endless websites, fabulous things are right at your fingertips! Making a unique statement can be a challenge when the same art is also hanging in your friend’s, mom’s and neighbor’s house, but you can make an artistic mark by using these easy design secrets! OOOOhhh, we do love an interesting wall!

Happy Shopping!
